A History of Calvary Assembly
On June 4, 1961, Damascus Assembly of God held its first Sunday School and Morning Worship service in a 25 x 16 foot building on Damascus Road with eight attendees By 1971, the church had grown and wanted to improve their facilities. The pastor found a five-acre lot in Mt. Airy that cost $5,000. This seemed like an impossible amount, yet the church received a check for the exact amount needed and soon began to build on the land. On December 1, 1974, the church held its first service in the new Mt. Airy building. They were then able to further grow their outreaches and ministries.
The church has been known as Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God, then Faith Community Church, but today it is known as Calvary Assembly - Mount Airy. Our church has merged with Calvary Assembly in Frederick, Maryland. We are now known as Calvary Assembly - Mount Airy! We are now a campus church still ministering to you and to the Mount Airy community.
Today, as Calvary Assembly - Mount Airy, we are affiliated with the Assemblies of God. To learn more about our beliefs, please visit the Assemblies of God website, www.ag.org.
